1930's - 1940's Shaker Sewing Carrier – Floral Appliqué Lid, Silk Lined

Vintage Shaker sewing carrier with classic bentwood construction.  The fingers are held in place with copper tacks, copper rivets hold the swing handle in place. The oval lid features applied floral cut-outs set beneath the finish. Inside is lined in purple jacquard silk with an attached ribbon and original silk strawberry emery. Measures approx. 3" tall (base), 7.5" wide, 5" deep; handle adds 3.5" in height.

The interior lining has fraying at the top edge, and the silk ribbons have begun to fray as well. The strawberry’s silk wrap is worn, but the velvet “hull” is in good condition. This was likely crafted at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in New Gloucester, Maine. While not marked, the style is consistent with pieces made by Brother Delmar Wilson in the 1930s–40s, though this is not confirmed.
