Very Early Embroidery on Silk with Wood Frame

Measures:  13.75” x 11.75”

This is an amazing piece of handwork that I believe dates to around the late 1700’s – early 1800’s.  The silk is very fine, it has begun to come apart in places (please see photos) but retains its dignified beauty.  The stitching is detailed and colorful, skillfully applied.  The thread is silk.  The wood frame has a warm patina that comes with great age.  The wood is likely pine, the silk is held in place by early hand forged raisin head nails – another indicator of age.  I love this and I am in awe that I can touch a piece that was so lovingly created over 200 years ago!
