The slide indicator is so pretty on this little gauge! I love how they made every day, useful items beautiful too! The gauge measures 3 inches, on the back it is marked “Sterling” and “Pat Oct. 2 94”. There is also a number 2 and a hallmark which is not discernable to me. Most hems in the early 20th century were 3 inches, the hem gauge was shorter and easier to maneuver than a ruler and the slide marks the hem depth so that pins could be placed for stitching!
