Late 1800's Mauchline ware string holder featuring a transfer image of Hastings Pier. The piece measures about 3" tall and 4" in diameter. It includes a wooden spool of knitting/crochet cotton inside. The top has an opening for feeding string or thread.
There is one crack on the back side that does not affect use or stability. The lid fits properly.
Mauchline Ware is so named because it was produced in or near a small town called Mauchline in Scotland. It is made of sycamore and often had transfer photos of popular tourist destinations. It was produced from the mid 1800’s until 1933 when the last Mauchline Ware factory was destroyed by fire.
