This Mauchline Ware box features a transfer image of Edinburgh Castle from Princes Street and was made in Scotland, likely in the late 1800s to early 1900s.
It is a small keepsake or sewing box with a clean, simple form. The lid lifts off easily and fits well. Pieces like this were often used to hold sewing notions or small personal items.
It is in very good condition with light, age-appropriate wear. The transfer image remains clear and the wood has a warm, even finish. The interior is clean with some minor marks consistent with age and use.
Measures 1.5" tall, 3.5" wide, and 2.25" deep.
Mauchline Ware is so named because it was produced in or near a small town called Mauchline in Scotland. It is made of sycamore and often had transfer photos of popular tourist destinations. It was produced from the mid 1800’s until 1933 when the last Mauchline Ware factory was destroyed by fire.
