Mauchline ware wooden box featuring a printed portrait of a young girl on the lid. The box has a brass latch and hinges, with the latch being broken and a bit tricky to open. Hinges are secure and in good working order. The interior is lined in blue paper that shows age wear but remains intact.
Measures approximately 1.5" tall, 9" long, and 6" wide. The exterior shows light wear and some scratches typical of age.
Mauchline Ware is so named because it was produced in or near a small town called Mauchline in Scotland. It is made of sycamore and often had transfer photos of popular tourist destinations. It was produced from the mid 1800’s until 1933 when the last Mauchline Ware factory was destroyed by fire.
