Late 1800’s – Early 1900’s Mauchline Ware Thermometer

Measures:  8” tall

This thermometer is in very good condition.  There are four Scottish castles featured, one on each side.   The front notes that the wood to make the piece was grown on the lands of Abbotsford, this castle is featured on the front.  The thermometer reading is accurate.

Mauchline Ware is so named because it was produced in or near a small town called Mauchline in Scotland.  It is made of sycamore and often had transfer photos of popular tourist destinations.  It was produced from the mid 1800’s until 1933 when the last Mauchline Ware factory was destroyed by fire.
