Folk Art Sewing Box, Mid to Late 1800’s, Hand Made

Measures:  12” tall, 11” square

This sewing box was lovingly handmade!  It retains the original finish, varnish on the wood and a lovely barn red on the trim pieces.  There are 2 drawers, both lined with wallpaper of the same period.  The drawers have porcelain knobs, the top knob has a small chip.  The slanted roof features 4 lift top storage areas.  4 of the finials are missing though there is one in the top drawer which may be replaced if desired.  The large top finial likely had a pin cushion attached at one time.  Some of the wood used was salvaged from a cigar box and both the ink and paper stamps are visible on the inside of the storage areas and the sides of the drawers.  This is really in overall very good, sturdy condition.  I wonder if perhaps a groom crafted this for his new bride?

*Sewing box only included in sale, other items are my photo helpers :-)
