Early 1900’s Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Hem Gauge
Measures: 4.75” long
The top of this hem gauge is graced with a heart and floral decoration, it is marked Sterling on both sides. The gauge measures 3 inches, the lock on the movable indicator works well. There is some evidence of wear on the top of the heart, I have pictured this. Most hems in the early 20th century were 3 inches, the hem gauge was shorter and easier to maneuver than a ruler and the slide marks the hem depth so that pins could be placed for stitching!
