My research tells me that this needle case was carved in Germany probably around the 1860’s. But, really it is more sculpted than carved! The detail is shocking. There are leaves that are delicately furled and berries that appear plump and ready to pick. I can’t see any damage to the piece. Inside are 2 (what I believe to be) bodkins. Both have spots of tarnish the length of them. The longer one has very tiny markings on one end, one of the marks looks like a sun, the other some kind of bird perhaps. The case is made of 2 different types of wood, the lighter is one piece wrapped around the darker wood. This is an exquisite piece of artwork!
