Antique Tapley’s Self-Indexing Letter File 1879 Patent Springfield Printing Co.

Antique Tapley’s Self-Indexing Letter File, marked Springfield Printing Co., Springfield, Mass., U.S.A. and patented April 1, 1879. Dating to approximately the 1880s.
Made of wood with brass-toned hardware and a beautiful aged patina. The spring-loaded top works as intended, and the front pulls down smoothly and stays securely open on the curved metal supports. The hook-and-eye latch works well and all hinges are secure.
The original Tapley’s maker and patent information remains visible inside the upper lid. Two holes along the upper back allow the box to be wall mounted.
Very good antique condition with expected surface wear, marks and finish variation from age and use. There is a small green paint spot on the top/back as shown. No damage beyond normal antique wear.
Measurements: 12.5" wide x 10" tall x 4" deep
A great piece of early office history that also has practical everyday storage potential for mail, paperwork, stationery, photographs or other small items.
