This sewing box is made of burled wood and has a beautiful, aged patina. The top features a park scene in tones of grey and is covered with glass. The box opens and closes nicely, the hinges are original and in very good condition. The inside holds a tiny pair of scissors. They are marked Solginen made in Germany. There is also a hallmark. There are 18 wooden spools, 14 of these have thread on them. Five are marked Belding Heminway USA and I believe these are spools of silk. The thimble is sterling silver, engraved with the name “Ethel”. There is some tarnish on the thimble which could be cleaned if desired. The sewing box likely dates to the early 1900s, perhaps earlier.
