Antique celluloid necktie box dating to approximately the 1910s–1920s. The box has a mottled green celluloid exterior with gold decoration, ornate raised “Neckties” lettering across the lid, decorative metal latch, and a pink/peach silk-lined interior.
The original silk lining remains intact, including the gathered sections inside the lid and base, but has age-related discoloration and spotting. The hinges are secure and working properly, and the decorative front latch opens and closes as it should.
The box measures approximately 12" long x 3 1/2" deep x 2 1/4" high.
This piece does show age-related wear. There is chipping, lifting and loss/detachment of the celluloid covering, particularly at the corners and edges. One corner has clear Scotch tape that was applied previously; I have left it in place rather than risk further damage by removing it. The underside has water staining and surface wear. Please see all photographs and videos for a close look at condition.
Despite the wear, the box remains structurally usable and attractive.
