The Gateway toy sewing machines were produced only for a short time from the late 1940’s into the 1950’s. They were produced as a sideline, along with roller skates to make use of extra metal materials. The Gateway Engineering Company, founded in 1933 manufactured supports for concrete decks in construction projects. An interesting combination of products! The wheel turns well with a bit of stiffness, the presser foot lever works, there is a needle in place. There is some paint loss in places and the logo decal has worn away a bit. The rubber feet are in place (surprisingly!) though they are cracked and hardened as natural rubber will do over time. This is an unusual little machine with an interesting history!
