1920’s – 1930’s Silk Winder from Textile Mill

So many ways to get creative with this silk winder!  I came up with a couple ideas but I'm sure you will have plenty more!  My research indicates that this item was originally used in an industrial setting as a silk winder, possibly originating in France.  Lyons, France was and still is, the silk capital of the world.  Silk was only sporadically produced in the US in Virginia and Georgia until about the 1760's. By this time, cotton was more lucrative and easier to come by.  This winder is in wonderful condition with a beautiful patina.  All the spokes are present, the center spindle is all good and has metal ends for fitting into a base so that it would turn.  There is a leather strip in the middle which would have held a weight, the weight has gone missing over the years.  Some of the spoke holes have chips due to years of use.
