Measures: 2” tall, 3” long
My research leads me to believe this elephant was made by the Heyde Company of Germany. The company was founded in 1872 and ceased production in 1944 due to the partial destruction of the factory during WWII. There is some wear to the paint but no breaks or cracks in the figure itself. The original velvet pin cushion is in place with some wear and several pins still stuck in! “Germany” is stamped on the belly of the elephant. Elephants were very popular during the Victorian era, the most famous was “Jumbo” who lived at the London Zoo and was ridden by Queen Victoria’s children.
