1880’s – 1910’s Mauchline Ware Sewing Trio with Simons Bros Sterling Silver Thimble

Measure:  Box – 2.5” tall, 4” wide, 2.5” deep, Thimble holder – 2.5” tall, 1.75” wide, Double ended pincushion – 1.75” long

The little sewing box has a red velvet pincushion on top, it has expected wear on the velvet as shown in the photos, the picture on this one is “View on Lake Minnewaska”.  The lid is a bit off on one corner but otherwise in very good condition, it opens and closes easily.

The double ended pincushion with its maroon velvet ends is just beautiful!  The velvet is in great shape as is the wood, the picture is “Delaware Water Gap, MT. Minsi & Mt. Tarmany”.

The thimble holder with the pincushion on top is stamped on the bottom “Made in Scotland”.  The pincushion is velvet and is in very good condition.  The picture is “Bunker Hill Monument 221 Feet High”.  There is one area of wear near the top of the monument as shown in the photo.  I have included a sterling silver Simons Bros thimble, size 9 likely from the same era.  I believe it may have a gold wash around the edge.  There are no punctures, and it is not out of round.

Mauchline Ware is so named because it was produced in or near a small town called Mauchline in Scotland.  It is made of sycamore and often had transfer photos of popular tourist destinations.  It was produced from the mid 1800’s until 1933 when the last Mauchline Ware factory was destroyed by fire.
