1850’s to 1870’s Tintype Photo of Toddler Girl in Original Gutta-Percha Case

Measures:  3” x 2.5”

This 150+ year old tintype photo and case are in wonderful condition!  The binding is still in place, though it is delicate.  The latch works.  The velvet lining is a bit faded, as would be expected for the age of the piece but has no damage.  The photo is framed in an ornate gold-colored (copper?) mat with intricate detailing.

The child has a pensive look on her little face, her cheeks have been hand tinted so they are nice and pink!  It almost looks like mom is holding the chair she is sitting in, but this may also be a shadow.  To find a photo of a child still in the case in this condition is a rare treat!
