1800’s Hand Stitched Quilted Christmas Stocking, Silk and Velvet

Measures:  26” long, 11” at widest point

Such care was taken to make this a very special Christmas stocking, and it was well cared for through the years.  I’m sure there is a story here!  I found this in the western mountains of Maine, I don’t believe it had traveled far from its original home.  The hand stitching is beautifully done, the velvet is a treat to touch.  Some of the silks have begun to wither with age but that is to be expected.  I have tried to picture all of this.  This stocking could be hung with care and enjoyed all year!
