1800’s Domino Set with Dovetailed Wooden Box

Box measures:  2.5” tall, 7” long, 2.25” wide

First of all, the box is very well made and the slide top works so smoothly!  All 28 dominos are present.  The dominos are made of bone and a dark wood that is likely ebony.  They are held together in the middle by a brass pin (hence, the green discoloration).  The pieces are in very good condition as can be seen in the photos.  The box is a dark hardwood, I believe it is mahogany.  This set was probably made around the mid 1800’s (Civil War Era), this is an approximation.  Interestingly, dominos were viewed as a “less sinful” game than playing cards…..
