These pamphlets were published during WWII and reflect the necessity of "mend and make do" of that era. The mending pamphlet was published in 1943 in Maine and was apparently part of the curriculum at University of Maine at Farmington (I graduated from there!). The front is marked with the owner's name and Purington Hall - still a dormitory today! The contents of this pamphlet are fascinating and an excellent tutorial for beginning stitchers! The back is stamped "From the Office of Margaret Chase Smith". She was the first woman to serve in both houses of the US Congress. And she was from Skowhegan, Maine. Please look her up - it will be worth your time.
The cooking pamphlet offers an astonishing 57 ways to use condensed soup. It was published in 1944. What a way to stretch those ration stamps! There is even a recipe for a tomato soup cake!
The mending pamphlet is in good but definitely used condition, the soup pamphlet is in very good condition.
