Victorian Photo Pins, Set of 2, Possible Mourning Jewelry

Measure:  Girl – 1.5”, Boy – 1.25”

These photo pins are most likely mourning jewelry, worn by the mother or another female relative during the mourning period to represent the connection to the child.  The little boy pin is probably the oldest of the two.  It is brass, the pin on back works fine.  The photo has been hand tinted, note the pink in his little cheeks!  The little girl is in an interesting pose, appearing very relaxed.  Most photos of this period were far more stoic.  She has lovely wavy hair and a dreamy look on her pretty face.  The pin is missing from the back of her photo but the patent date is stamped on the metal: “Pin Lock May 31 ’98”.  These could be a unique addition to a needlework or sewing project!
