Simons Bros Thimble, Sterling Silver with Gold Band, Size 6, May 28 89 (#16)

Simons Bros of Philadelphia, PA was founded in 1839 by George Washington Simons, at that time, they were manufacturers of gold and silver thimbles and pencil cases.  The company grew rapidly from there, expanding to include many gold and silver items including (!) tooth and ear picks, earrings and finger rings.  The 14k gold band on this thimble has a series of panels with every other one being decorated.  The size 6 appears on one of the panels, along with “May 28 89” indicating the patent date of the thimble.  I just adore the tiny thimbles like one!  I always wonder, was it for a child or a very little lady?  The thimble is not out of round, there are no punctures and the hallmark appears in the apex of the thimble.
