Pair of Sewing Boxes with Contents, Including Shell Sewing Clamp

Measures:  Corduroy Box: 3” tall, 5.5” deep, 5.5” wide, Wood Box:  3.5” tall, 6” deep, 7.5” wide

Everything pictured is included with this pair!  The corduroy box is in pre-loved condition and rather delicate.  The fabric has become discolored over the years.  This little box was probably made in the early 1900’s, perhaps before.  It is believed to be Shaker-made, but I cannot confirm it with certainty.  The lining is silk. The cover is coming away from the box, one of the silk ribbon hinges is missing.  Contents include:  a mushroom darner/needle holder, beeswax for needles, wooden spools of thread, Boye needle case, a tiny silver basket which could be polished and several other small notions.

The wooden box is wallpaper lined.  In its former life it was a cigar box as shown on the stamp on the bottom.  The ornate latch on front will close but sticks a bit.  The corners are all finger jointed.  The box itself is in very good pre-loved condition with an aged patina.  Included with the box is an antique cowry shell sewing clamp which would have had a pin cushion in the shell.  This has been removed but is ready for a new, old one pin cushion!  Perhaps made with the silk velvet which is also included!
