Mauchline ware box originally made for Clark & Co.’s thread. The box features transfer images of Rothesay on the lid, with smaller images of Rothesay Castle and Dunoon on the front. The interior retains its original blue paper lining and printed Clark & Co. advertising label inside the lid.
Measures about 2" tall, 4.5" wide, and 2.5" deep. The paper lining shows some wear and damage. The cover closes properly but sits slightly higher on one side. Otherwise, the box is in great condition with rich color and clear transfers.
Mauchline Ware is so named because it was produced in or near a small town called Mauchline in Scotland. It is made of sycamore and often had transfer photos of popular tourist destinations. It was produced from the mid 1800’s until 1933 when the last Mauchline Ware factory was destroyed by fire.
