The ornate brass clasp on this little notepad is in place and works perfectly!  The book binding is leather as is the loop for a pencil.  There is a little pocket on the inside cover to stow small items, perhaps stamps??  The pages are all blank, though it looks like a name was written in pencil on the first page.  There is a photo on both the front and back of the book, as well as the following information: “Made of wood which grew near Alloway Kirk on the Banks of the Doon”.  Robert Burns (1759-1796) was Scotland’s National Bard, he wrote many poems and songs including “Auld Lang Syne”!

Mauchline Ware is so named because it was produced in or near a small town called Mauchline in Scotland.  It is made of sycamore wood and often had transfer photos of popular tourist destinations.  It was produced from the mid 1800’s until 1933 when the last Mauchline Ware factory was destroyed by fire.
