Carved Bone Needle Case with Stanhope, U.S. Capital Washington

Measures:  5.25” long

This needle case has an extra special feature – a tiny magnifying window with a picture in it!  Like an early version of the View Master!  When held to the light you can see a picture of the Capital building in Washington DC!  The needle case is made of carved bovine bone, the bottom is threaded, it opens and closes nicely.  There are no needles in it.  This dates to the mid to late 1800’s.  It’s amazing to me that it has survived for around 150 years with the tiny window intact!!
