Beautiful antique velvet shawl, likely dating from the late Victorian to Edwardian era (circa 1890–1915). This one-of-a-kind piece appears to be constructed from salvaged garments, with subtly different shades of black velvet pieced together. The ends feature ornate embroidered floral panels, possibly repurposed from an older textile, and hand-stitched into place.
Measures approx. 37" x 17". A fascinating example of historic reuse and needlework. The silk lining at the ends is beginning to shatter, and the edges of the embroidered panels have been mended. Velvet shows some scattered wear and there’s one small pinhole. Still very striking and wearable with care—or ideal for display or costume use.
