1924 Simplex Typewriter with Original Box and Instructions

The Simplex Typewriter Co of New York produced its first typewriter in 1891.  In its first incarnation, it was a real typewriter meant for folks of modest means, it cost $2.50 (a new Remington was $100.00) and produced nice looking work though at a very slow pace.  The Simplex was really a stamping device with a round tin index with rubber type mounted underneath.  Simplex typewriters were later made as toys with several different versions to follow.  This Simplex dates to 1924, we can tell this by the last US Patent number on the letter disc.  The typewriter is in very good condition, the carriage moves when the disc is pressed, the paint and graphics are sharp.  The original box is in surprisingly good condition for the age, however the ink did spill and stain the box a bit.  The mailing label is still affixed to the front of the box, I bet Ervin Carter of Kenduskeag, Maine was excited to receive his Simplex!
