1908 Wall Box with Inscription

Measures:  7” wide, 2.5” deep, 5” tall

There’s so much character in this old wall box!  I believe it is made of mahogany but could be another dense, dark hardwood.  The original nails are in place and have round heads with the exception of the square nails in the back.  The first part of the inscription is hard to decipher (perhaps “Ronald”?) but I can clearly see “in 1908”.  I’m sure it has had many uses in the past 115 years but generally boxes like this were used for correspondence and other important documents.  There is one area on the back where the wood has split but this doesn’t affect the stability of the piece.  Please see the photos.
