1890’s J&P Coats Spool Cotton Thread Box with Thread and Sterling Silver Thimble

Measures:  2” tall, 4” wide

This spool box is in beautiful condition!  The lady and her basket of posies on the top are done in soft pastels, there are very fine crazing lines which is an excellent indication of age.  There is a dark spot at the top of the cover.  The box has no cracks or chips on either the base or the cover.  The cover fits nicely.  Inside are 4 compartments for thread spools and a middle area for a thimble.  Included are 4 spools of J&P Coats thread as well as a sterling silver thimble, size 7.  The thimble is deeply and beautifully engraved around the band.  There are no punctures, it is slightly out of round.  The maker is unknown, the number 7 appears in the apex but any hallmark has worn away.  What an amazing addition to a sewing collection!
