1880’s – 1910’s Mauchline Ware Thimble Holder with Simons Bros Sterling Silver Thimble

Measures:  1.5” tall, 1.5” long

This little thimble holder has a dark blue velvet lining, the hinge works fine as does the hook and eye latch.  The picture on top is “Summit of Mt. Washington”.  I have included a Simons Bros sterling silver thimble, size 8 from about the same era.  The thimble has no punctures and is not out of round.

Mauchline Ware is so named because it was produced in or near a small town called Mauchline in Scotland.  It is made of sycamore and often had transfer photos of popular tourist destinations.  It was produced from the mid 1800’s until 1933 when the last Mauchline Ware factory was destroyed by fire.
