1880’s – 1910’s Mauchline Ware Sewing Egg with Kit

Measures:  3” long

“City Park, Saratoga Springs, NY” is featured in the picture on this sewing egg.  There is some damage to the picture, please see the photos.  The sewing kit is complete with 2 colors thread and a thimble.  The thimble is not sterling.  It looks like the egg was well and truly used as a darning egg as some of the finish has come away.

Mauchline Ware is so named because it was produced in or near a small town called Mauchline in Scotland.  It is made of sycamore and often had transfer photos of popular tourist destinations.  It was produced from the mid 1800’s until 1933 when the last Mauchline Ware factory was destroyed by fire.
