Measures: Disc – 2” wide, Egg – 3” long
The sewing egg once included a small sewing kit, this has gone missing through the years, but the egg is still a lovely decorative piece. It has a photo of “Old Spanish Fort and Moat, St. Augustine”. The egg also has a few signs of wear, there are dents in the wood – I wonder if it was used as a darning egg?
The disc has blue velvet which is a bit faded in places and does have pin holes. The photo is of the “Dome of the Capitol, Washington”. It was found with pins in it and I have left them in place.
Mauchline Ware is so named because it was produced in or near a small town called Mauchline in Scotland. It is made of sycamore and often had transfer photos of popular tourist destinations. It was produced from the mid 1800’s until 1933 when the last Mauchline Ware factory was destroyed by fire.
