1870's - 1880's Store Display Needle Case, Blood’s Patent Helix Needles

Measures:  3” tall, 14” wide, 7.5” deep

This store display is, I believe, handmade.  The corners are finger jointed, the trim around the glass top is beveled, hand carved.  The holes for holding the individual needle cases have been drilled unevenly, there are 10 per row.  The original label is in place on the back of the case. It reads “Blood’s Patent Helix Needles”, “This case loaned for the purpose of displaying Blood’s patent Helix needles only.”  “Case patented June 10th and November 25th, 1879.”  There is just one area of wear on the label, please see photo.  The glass is in perfect condition, there are no chips or cracks. The original hinges are in place and work well. There is one chip on the base, back bottom, shown in the photo.  The bottom of the case has period accurate saw marks from a saw known as the “up and down” saw.
