This thimble was made by Simons Bros, it is hallmarked in the apex.  Simons Bros of Philadelphia, PA was founded in 1839 by George Washington Simons, at that time, they were manufacturers of gold and silver thimbles and pencil cases.  The company grew rapidly from there, expanding to include many gold and silver items including (!) tooth and ear picks, earrings and finger rings.  There are no punctures in this thimble, it is slightly out of round.
